Introduction

MidAmerica Auctions, the world's largest seller of antique motorcycles hosts several headlining auction events across the country, including their flagship Las Vegas Antique Motorcycle Auction & Races for over 22 years and the internationally renowned Pebble Beach Concourse d’ Elegance in California that attracts celebrity collectors, motorcycle enthusiasts, and media from all over the world.

A client since 2009, MidAmerica Auctions sought to develop branding that reflected their tagline “the motorcycles are gone, but the era remains” and produce collectable art for their apparel and other branded merchandise. In-depth research into era-specific design aesthetics and typography was necessary to develop the original illustrations and artwork that uniquely distinguished each event and bolstered the sale of catalogues, posters, t-shirts, and other collectibles.

As a niche market interested in reaching an audience outside their devoted fans, social media promotions accompanied traditional publicity campaigns, highlighting the lore of bikes owned by Steve McQueen and Jim Morrison through email blasts, press releases, by-line articles, and press junkets. These far-reaching marketing efforts helps promote the accessibility of their online auction and further engaged their followers.

Introduction

Seafood Solutions, a division of International Traders Inc., one of the nation’s largest food brokers, was developed to meet the demand for dependable fresh and frozen seafood supply and logistics to large chain restaurants. The Seafood Solution logo was developed by creating an elegant and original typographical design using a mirrored letter “s” to represent the company’s initials and their fluid logistical service, while the colors signify reliability and freshness. The simple, yet distinctive logo was created along with marketing collateral, packaging, power point presentations and one-sheets.

The company tagline for Jessica Fadness Hair incorporates the famous Marilyn Monroe quote, "Everyone’s a star and deserves the right to twinkle” and reflects the” self-indulge on a budget" attitude and promotes her industry expertise consistently through her website, business cards, and post-cards. Her Facebook Fan page provides an engaging forum for beauty tips, celebrity styles, promotions, and specials.

Introduction

DogstarLA, an emerging pet service start-up, is quickly developing into a highly-reputable premier pet-care business in Los Angeles that caters to the devoted, but busy pet owner. The target demographic is the animal lover that values service, experience, and reputation in their pet caretaker. The founder, Stephanie Seaholm, an active animal-rights advocate and local champion of animal rescue organizations with more than 15 years experience in the care and training of domestic animals, has a unique service that focuses on improving pet health through regular exercise, consistent schedules, and organic foods for her furry clients.

Her company branding tools are both economical and effective, and boast her upbeat attitude and passion for proper animal care through consistent messaging on her website, business cards, flyers, and other collateral. Because her business depends largely on word-of-mouth referrals, her social marketing outlets engage her audience with helpful tips, pet adoptions, and pet industry news –serving as a valuable resource for her growing roster of clients.

Introduction

A Vietnamese coffee producer needed to re-brand their “3 in 1” instant coffee product for distribution in the American market. As a collaborative effort, to illustrate the company’s rich 35-year old history of producing French/Vietnamese coffee in the mountains of Vietnam, branding of the new Mont Café incorporated a traditional “American” coffee packaging color schemes and design – a far departure from the original gold foiled bag and bold hues. The boxed design and individual serving packets distinguish the product from leading American brands while efficiently managing retail shelf space.

About Damon

Introduction

Damon Merten is a third generation design artist with over 15 years of expertise in graphic design, branding, packaging, exhibit design, web design, and fine architectural signage. He was worked extensively in multi-dimensional mediums of design work for over 150 clients ranging from small businesses to conglomerates in a vast array of industries (see attached list of clients). From restaurants and grocery store chains to municipalities and international trade associations, Damon’s diverse expertise allows him to meet a growing number of clients’ needs and exceed their expectations.

In 1995, he joined the family business at Merten Sign and Graphics Company and later managed the company for over five years. It was there that he crafted a unique skill for producing fine architectural signage in multiple mediums for festivals, businesses, and events as well as creative design and signage for professional clients throughout Minnesota. In 2004, >Damon combined his artist and technical skills to focus on high-tech commercial creative work and founded DM Designwerks, LLC, a design studio specializing in creative and sign systems. In 2007, he joined forces with Vengra Design, Inc., as the Lead Graphic Designer managing design for logos, in-house branding, product design and development, vehicle graphics, tradeshow/POP design, large- format print graphics using all the latest in printing technology. In 2009, Damon continued to expand his design experience with Linden Graphics, Inc. where he served a Production Manager, responsible for leading the creative team and managing quality control and cost-effectiveness for all projects.

Damon recently relocated to Los Angeles, CA and currently works as freelance designer designing logos, working on brand concepts, and producing package design and signage for consumer product, event production, and international trade clients.

Damon is a Graduate of Fine Art from the prestigious Atelier Le Sueur School of Fine Art in Excelsior, Minnesota. This apprentice based approach originally developed by Leonardo Da Vinci included studies to gain technical mastery of layout, design within multiple mediums.
